About the Massive Outreach Event (MOE):

This year's conference will feature an unprecedented event that engages over 4000 high school students from across Newfoundland and Labrador. On January 8, 2010, all 400 delegates will go to 10 schools in the St. John's area to deliver classroom presentations. Then, the students in these schools, along with students iacross the province, will be engaged by a live broadcast presentation that will: feature a keynote speech from Canadian NGO and public policy leader Shauna Sylvester, include a video made by EWB-Ryerson that showcases youth creating changing in different parts of the globe, and finish with NL high school students participating in an collaborative action. This event will also be broadcast to every EWB chapter in the country.

About EWB:

To promote human development, we strive to drive change in Canada and in developing communities. Here at home, EWB is raising awareness among Canadians about the impact of their daily actions on developing communities. We aim to make Canada a model global citizen in the fight against poverty. Overseas, our volunteers promote human development in some of the world's most impoverished communities. They help build knowledge and capacity among local entrepreneurs and organisations so they can spread innovative and appropriate solutions to the challenges of poverty.

EWB is a world class development organisation that includes 25 full time staff members, 37 university and professional chapters, 35 000 members, over 2 500 volunteers in Canada and more than 300 volunteers who have worked overseas. It is well respected in Ottawa for its development expertise, in Africa for the quality of its volunteers, and throughout North America's business and NGO sectors for its innovation and impact.

About the 2010 EWB National Conference:

In January 2010, St. John's will experience the energy and innovation of Engineers Without Borders first hand when the 2010 EWB National Conference is hosted by the EWB-MUN chapter. Over 400 student, development and engineering leaders from across Canada and Africa will come to Newfoundland for four days of working sessions, keynote speeches, and discussions. One highlight will be a youth outreach event that simultaneously engages 10000+ high school students across the province. This is the biggest  international development conference in Canada, and the biggest international development event to ever come to Newfoundland and Labrador.

Keynote speakers will be coming here from all parts of the world. We have invited founders of international NGO's from South Africa, heads of national NGO's from Burkina Faso, agricultural extension agents from Ghana and prominent MP's and policy leaders from Canada.
